Bridgwater Ladies 2nd XI (2) v (0) White Eagles 2

27/03/2010

League game at Home

Bridgwater won their final game of the season with a two nil win over Tiverton White Eagles. Again Bridgwater had had to cede a couple of their regular players to their first team and a mixture of youth and experience took to the field. With ‘keeper Amy Burridge now fully recovered from the bug which kept her out of the team last week, the defence was more or less back to normal with Bridget Hedaux, Shawnee Storey and Donna Walker working well to keep a clean sheet. The game was won for Bridgwater by their domination in mid field. Sue Chaplin and Suze Daw worked brilliantly together to cut out the Eagle’s attacks and then assist their forwards. Kath Briggs put Bridgwater ahead after some persistent play by Anne Marie Coate and when the defence failed to clear the ball, Briggs was there to push the ball home. Emma Hill and Jo Bromme continuously pushed up the wings and fired ball after ball into the Bridgwater D, many narrowly missing the target. The pressure eventually paid off when Bridgwater were awarded a penalty corner which was converted by Sue Chaplin. Paige Martin and Miche Evans worked tirelessly in midfield cutting out many Eagles’ attacks. Although Bridgwater could not add to their first half tally, they continued to defend well and will finish this season in a creditable fourth or fifth place. Player of the match was Bridget Hedaux.
